You’re in safe hands with our dentists who are trained and experienced in oral surgery and restorative dentistry. If you opt for a dental implant, your dentist will create an individual treatment plan designed around your specific needs.

How dental implants work

Dental implants are titanium screws or posts placed in the jawbone to form an artificial root. The implant then supports a replacement crown to match your natural teeth. Implants are usually created in three stages, as detailed in your personal treatment plan.

  1. An implant is placed into the jaw using local anaesthetic in a sterile environment.
  2. Once the jawbone has healed, an abutment is attached to the metal ‘root’. This will hold the new tooth. Your dentist will make impressions of your teeth to create a model of your bite. This helps them to create the new tooth or teeth.
  3. The new tooth, also known as a crown, is then attached to the abutment.

Dental Implants Aftercare

Aftercare

After fitting your implant, your dentist will give you advice on how to clean and care for your implant/s correctly. Caring for a dental implant is no different to caring for your natural teeth. We recommend regular brushing, flossing and dental check-ups to keep them in tip top condition.

FAQ

Can anyone have dental implants?
Dental implants are suitable for anyone who is healthy enough to have a tooth extraction or oral surgery.
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, similar to a tooth extraction. You should not feel any pain during the surgery, but you may experience some discomfort in the days following treatment. Normal painkillers such as paracetamol will help. If you are nervous about surgery, please let us know and we’ll talk you through the options.
Length of treatment and what’s involved at each stage will be set out in your personal care plan.
Implants are robust and durable and will last for many years. When cared for correctly, they can last a lifetime.
Yes, your dentist will match the colour of the implant to your natural teeth. It will look, feel and work just like a real tooth.
